Holding space for your stories

Some people collect pot plants. Others collect ever-growing lists of book and podcast recommendations. We collect stories of career transitions (as well as the latter two!).

We have a soft spot for people’s stories, especially those about the “in-between moments” - the often tricky spaces between what was and what’s next. Perhaps it’s because we’ve personally been there more than once and can still remember how it felt each time.

We know that losing your job, even when you’re told it’s a rational business decision (e.g. an organisational reshuffle) can be really tough. It can shake and sometimes even shatter your confidence, sense of security and your identity. It can take a huge toll on your mental health and wellbeing, often taking longer than you anticipate to regroup, rebuild and secure your next role.

In our opinion, a lot of this hinges on how an organisation supports people on their way out (which we think is actually as important as how they welcome them in).

That’s one of the reasons we’re so passionate offering outplacement support. To us it’s much more than career guidance. It’s as much about holding space and helping people to feel heard and understood, and to navigate the emotional rollercoaster than so often comes with unexpected changes and transitions. Using that as a foundation, and then creating a bespoke program in collaboration with each client, can really empower people to see past their initial loss towards fulfilling possibilities, and accelerate their agency and movement towards new opportunities.

If you’re an HR leader or leader navigating redundancies, and you want your people to feel genuinely supported, through an individually tailored outplacement program, then let’s chat.

How you support employees to exit your organisation matters and people remember how they were treated when things end.
